A customer in Brighton and Hove purchased reclaimed scaffold boards from us for a shed storage project. They incorporated the boards into a timber framework to create the shelf surfaces shown in the finished installation.
For the project, we supplied:
- 6 x used 10ft scaffold boards
- 6 x used 4ft scaffold boards
With two different lengths available, the customer could use the boards across the various sections of the storage unit.
Creating the Storage
The shelving was built along the shed’s internal walls, with upright timber posts and horizontal supports forming the framework.
The scaffold boards were positioned across these supports to provide the storage surfaces. The arrangement includes spaces of different heights, accommodating smaller containers and toolboxes as well as larger pieces of equipment.
Building the unit around the walls also leaves the main floor area available while providing substantial storage.

Incorporating the Boards into the Shelving
The longer boards run across the extended sections of the framework, while the shorter lengths appear elsewhere in the unit.
Rather than covering the timber or applying a decorative finish, the boards have been left visibly untreated as part of the completed shelving. Signs of their previous use remain apparent in the wood’s surface and appearance.
This provides a useful example of what reclaimed scaffold timber can look like when incorporated into a practical project.
Our involvement was limited to supplying the boards. The customer carried out the design and construction of the shelving separately.
Making Use of the Available Space
The completed unit is now being used for a wide assortment of items.
Plastic storage containers occupy several areas, alongside toolboxes, decorating materials and other equipment. Larger items have also been placed on the upper sections of the framework.
Instead of using identical compartments throughout, the structure mixes shelf heights and widths. This creates different-sized spaces across the installation to suit the customer’s storage needs.
It is a straightforward project that shows how reclaimed timber can be incorporated into a larger shed storage arrangement, rather than limited to a single shelf or small rack.
Buying Used Scaffold Boards
Scaffold boards are originally intended for use in a scaffolding system, but customers also buy reclaimed scaffold boards for timber projects away from a working scaffold.
A Different Use for Reclaimed Scaffold Boards
This shelving project is one example of previously used scaffold timber being given a different practical purpose after its original use.
Here, they form the horizontal surfaces within a purpose-built timber storage unit.
The customer photographs are particularly useful because they show the finished project already in everyday use. Boxes, tools, and equipment are placed throughout the shelving, giving a clear view of how the completed arrangement works within the available space.
As with any customer project, the required dimensions, construction, and materials depend on what is being built. Anyone planning something similar should decide what suits their design and intended use.
