Project Overview

The Modern Calligraphy Co. were looking to introduce warm, characterful materials into key areas of their existing workspace in East Wittering. The focus was on enhancing specific elements that would be both functional and visually aligned with their creative brand. Reclaimed timber was chosen for its natural texture, sustainability credentials, and ability to bring depth and authenticity to the space.

Materials & Application

A selection of rustic-looking used 13ft and 8ft reclaimed boards was supplied to create two main wooden features within the workplace:

• Desk Area Cladding
  The reclaimed boards were used to clad the front of the desk area, creating a strong focal point within the studio. The vertical board layout highlights the timber’s natural grain, knots, and tonal variation, giving the desk a handcrafted, welcoming appearance that complements the brand’s creative identity.
• Table Construction
  The 8ft boards were used to create a large, solid table within the workspace. The generous scale of the table makes it ideal for meetings, workshops, and everyday working, while the visible wear and patina of the timber add character without compromising on practicality.

The consistency of the reclaimed boards across both features helps tie the space together visually, while still allowing each element to stand out.

Result

The finished desk area and table add warmth, texture, and individuality to the studio, enhancing the overall atmosphere without altering the existing layout. The reclaimed timber works exceptionally well alongside the light interior, natural flooring, and soft furnishings, creating a balanced and inviting environment for both staff and visitors.

This project demonstrates how thoughtfully chosen reclaimed materials can elevate a commercial workspace, even when used selectively.

Another Creative Use for Scaffold Boards

Timber scaffold boards are also a practical material for outdoor projects. A very different example is this therapeutic sensory garden built using 13ft scaffold boards, where the timber was cut to size to construct raised beds for growing herbs, vegetables, and flowers.
