Our Tek screws are exterior-grade, self-drilling 3-point hex-head screws with a bonded EPDM washer, specifically engineered for durable performance in sheet metal cladding and roofing projects. Offered in two lengths, 6.3mm × 22mm or 6.3 × 25mm, they are designed to efficiently join overlapping metal corrugated roofing sheets at side laps and end laps, ensuring a secure, watertight seal. These screws suit both professional roofers and DIY users by eliminating the need for pilot holes and streamlining installation for increased efficiency.

Key features

Our Tek screws are built for reliability and ease of use, making them an ideal choice for joining metal sheets in roofing and cladding applications. They come with advanced features to ensure lasting performance and straightforward installation:

  • Self-drilling 3-point – cuts through two sheets instantly.
  • 8 mm bonded EPDM washer for a permanent watertight seal.
  • Premium exterior corrosion coating.
  • 15-20-year service life in most UK environments.
  • Full compliance with BS EN ISO 10666 standards & CE marked.
  • Hex head (8 mm A/F) – works perfectly with magnetic nut setters.

What are the typical applications for these screws?

The Tek screws are suitable for side-lap and end-lap stitching on box profile, corrugated, and tile-effect roofing; twin-skin and composite panel overlaps; ridge and barge flashing laps; and any metal-to-metal overlap up to a combined thickness of 1.6 mm.

Which length do most roofers choose?

  •  6.3 × 22 mm: The best-selling length, perfect for standard 0.54 mm thick metal sheets. Ideal for everyday roofing installations, this length provides a secure and fast connection.
  • 6.3 × 25 mm: Select this option when you have thicker insulation between sheets or require a bit more thread engagement for extra security.

Are these screws suitable for securing roofing sheets to timber purlins?

No. These are only sheet-to-sheet stitching screws. Using them on timber will burn out the drill point and give almost no holding power. Use the timber Tek screws sold here, designed explicitly for wood-to-sheet fixing.

What’s the difference between these Tek screws and the longer screws?

These feature a 3-drill point and a short length for thin metal-to-metal overlaps (up to 1.6 mm). Longer screws use 4 or 5 points for steel purlins or have wings for timber.

Do these screws work for all types of metal roofing?

These screws are engineered for use with steel roofing sheets and cladding panels. They are optimally suited for materials such as galvanised steel and zinc-aluminium-coated sheets. Use with timber or thick steel purlins is not recommended.

How do I install these roofing screws?

These screws feature a self-drilling point, eliminating the need for a pilot hole. To install, position the screw through the overlapping metal sheets and employ a power tool, such as a drill or impact driver, to secure it. The screw will penetrate the steel and join the sheets, forming a reliable, watertight seal thanks to the EPDM washer.

What is an EPDM washer, and why is it important?

An EPDM washer is a weather-resistant rubber seal fixed to the screw base. It provides a watertight barrier, preventing leaks and protecting roofing systems in any climate.

How many do you get in a pack?

You get 100 sheet-to-sheet Tek screws in a pack.

What size drill bit should I use with these screws?

Because these are self-drilling screws, you don’t have to make a pilot hole. The screw’s own drill point pierces the steel sheets as you drive it in, eliminating the need for a separate drill bit.

Can I remove and reuse these screws?

These screws are intended for single use, but can be replaced if needed. Reusing them may weaken the seal, so it’s best to use new sheet-to-sheet Tek screws for optimal performance.
