Decking Built with Used 13ft Scaffold Boards in Fishbourne

Categories and Products

We were asked to provide a quote and our lead times for 15x reclaimed 13ft scaffolding boards to be delivered to Fishbourne in Chichester. We supplied full costings to this customer by email, and they accepted the order and wanted to double-check the boards’ quality, which we confirmed was of a very high standard, with barely any marks, chips, or warping. The boards we sell are banded, untreated, and typically 3.9 metres in length; they are also made from European whitewood timber and have been used on scaffolds for a short period as hire equipment before being sold on. We provided a large selection of reclaimed boards for our customer to choose the 15 they required. Once delivered, they were used to create a decking area in this customer’s garden.

The build from start to finish

This customer’s project was delayed a bit by the bad weather, but they began building their decking on a clear day. They started by creating a solid base in their garden using cement and then building a rectangular base on top of this using different lengths of reclaimed scaffold board: two at the front, two at the back and one on either side around the edge of the frame; the inner frame consisted of smaller support battens for the top decking to be fixed to. The base was secured by placing the boards on their sides and using wood screws. The other reclaimed scaffolding boards were used horizontally and drilled into place with metal wood screws. You can shop our rustic reclaimed 3.9m scaffold boards here; other timber sizes are available.

On the left side of the decking, our customer created a slanted/diagonal section using offcuts of different lengths of used scaffolding boards. A small step was fixed to the far end of the decked area on the right-hand side using a cut-down sleeper, providing access to the decking. The customer will complete the decking by applying a protective stain.

More garden inspiration

Reclaimed and new scaffold boards are incredibly versatile and are used for far more than just timber decking. One returning customer used our boards to create decorative wall cladding and built-in garden seating, giving their outdoor space a completely different look.
