Scaffold Tube Framework for Signage and Stands at Kew Gardens
A design company, Standard8 from Brighton, which designs and installs cultural exhibitions across the UK, contacted us to request a quotation for some of our scaffolding products. After providing a competitive quotation, including delivery costs and lead times, this customer ordered 60 x 21ft new galvanised steel scaffold tubes and 24 x 6-ton base jack supports. These items were going to be used for a new outdoor exhibition called the Wander Project at Kew Gardens, and this exhibition was put together to create a unique experience that would begin encouraging people to get outside in the fresh air, get active, and explore the outdoors more, whilst also enjoying what nature has to offer.
Delivery of this customer’s order
Our customer had requested that the 6.4m scaffold tubes be delivered to a specialist metal painting company in Arundel, which would be painting the galvanised steel tubes before our customer could begin creating the various items for the exhibition; the scaffold base jacks were then delivered separately to their studio in Portslade, Brighton, for a different project.
Undertaking the build
As you will see from the photos that our customer kindly supplied, they have created unique designs for the Wander project at Kew. The finished products Standard8 made for this exhibition include frames for artwork, banner frameworks, poster and sign frameworks, and canopy structures. There were also separate, standalone signs, guides, information stands, and A-frames for large signage in different locations throughout Kew Gardens. Most, if not all, of the pre-painted steel scaffold poles were placed in large metal square blocks made from stones encased in wire; these were used as weights to increase the stability of the signage banners.
The frame structures were joined together using Q-clamp fittings, which we did not supply. Pedestrian crowd control barriers were also installed in some areas to create a safe, controlled environment for the public.
